Almost every operating system, whether Windows, Mac or Linux, offers a function for creating screenshots as standard.

 

If you are using a Windows PC, you can easily take screenshots with certain keyboard shortcuts or the Snipping Tool.

 

After you have created a screenshot, you can attach it to your ticket, so that the support can better understand the ticket and may know what to do in the event of error messages. How to best create a ticket and what content should be in the ticket can also be read in the following article.

 

When you have taken the screenshot (s) you need, save them in a folder of your choice. To attach, please proceed as described under Creating a ticket.

A little detour is necessary to send a screenshot:

 

Please take a photo of the corresponding screen content of your mobile phone (depending on the manufacturer). Then email this to us at support@crmaddon.com. Please do not forget to include the required information in the email.

 

 

 

Windows

 

Taking a screenshot in Windows is pretty easy and quick these days.

 

Here are the different ways you can take a screenshot and save it.

 

Image by keyboard shortcut in Windows:

 

You can create a picture of your entire screen using the key combination [Windows] + [Print].

 

As soon as you have pressed this key combination, the picture will be saved in your screenshots folder.

 

You will find this folder in Windows Explorer under This PC and then on Pictures, here you will now find the Screenshots folder.

If you do not want the image to be saved, you can also use the [Print] key on your keyboard to save an image in your clipboard.

 

If you now press [CTRL] + [V] or right-click + Paste, you can paste the picture into a program such as Outlook, Paint or MS Word.

 

 

 

Snipping tool

 

As an alternative, Windows also offers the pre-installed Snipping Tool, which you can use to create a screenshot using a small menu.

 

You can search for and run the Snipping Tool using the search at the bottom left of Windows.

You now have several options for taking a screenshot in the menu that has opened.

You can use the drop-down menu to choose different types of cut-out, such as free cut, cut rectangular, cut out window or cut out full screen.

 

Since Windows 10 it is also possible to set a delay of up to 5 seconds.

 

After taking a screenshot of the error message, the following window opens:

Here you will find the same function as in the previous window, if you are not satisfied with the picture, you can create a new picture directly. New functions have now been added to the right in the window, such as saving the picture, saving it to the clipboard, send directly by email and you can draw on the picture or mark something with the yellow marker, you can also remove what you have drawn using the eraser.

 

 

Windows 10 exclusive function "cut and sketch:

 

The cut and sketch function is just the modern version of Snipping Tool for Windows 10.

 

The function came with Windows 10 Update 1809 and can be called using the key combination [Windows key] + [Shift] + [S], as well as when you search for cut and sketch in the Windows search.

The following window opens with the functions:

 

1. Cut out a rectangle

 

2. Cut out freely

 

3. Cut out the window

 

4. Cut out the full image

 

5. Close Snipping- You can also execute this function with the [ESCAPE] key.

 

 

 

 

After you have taken a picture, this small window opens in the lower right corner of Windows:

The picture you have made is now saved in your clipboard, so you can insert the picture with [CTRL] + [V] in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Paint, or other text / picture editing programs or right-click under Paste Add .

 

However, if you click on the picture at the bottom right, you can call up a window where you can edit the picture directly and save it in a folder.

 

 

Here you will find the similar functions as from the Snipping tool, as well as some additional functions:

 

­You have a wider choice of colors for drawing, extra pen type and you can customize the font size type.

­A ruler and a protractor

­Crop image

­Loupe for zooming

 

On the far right you will find the buttons to save the image, save it to the clipboard or share the file via Windows contacts.

 

 

 

The 3 points open additional options where you can also print the image directly.

Mac

 

On your Mac computer you have various options for taking screenshots using the various key combinations.

 

After you press the key combination, a thumbnail of the screenshot will open in the corner of the screen, click on it and you can edit the image.

But if you wait, the picture will be saved on your desk.

 

You can find out what combinations there are and what types of screenshots are created here:

 

 

 

­Key combination [Shift] + [Command] + [3] creates an image of the complete screen

­Key combination [Shift] + [Command] + [4] offers the possibility to photograph part of the screen.

 

With the crosshairs you now have to mark an area which you want to photograph.

 

If you want to move the highlighted area, hold down the space bar as you drag.

 

The [ESCAPE] key cancels the photographing process.

 

­Key combination [Shift] + [Command] + [4] + [Spacebar] transforms your mouse pointer into a small camera symbol, with this you can select a window or a menu which you want to photograph.

 

Here you can also cancel the process with the [ESCAPE] key.

 

 

 

Linux

 

In Linux you can easily take a screenshot using a key combination, and depending on the Linux version, various screenshot tools that are preinstalled offer you the option of taking screenshots.

 

Possible keyboard shortcuts for you to take screenshots:

 

 

­Key combination [Print] key creates a screenshot.

­Key combination [Alt] + [Print] key takes a screenshot of the current window.

­Key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Print] key offers the possibility to photograph a self-determined area.

 

Any screenshots that you create in Linux are saved in the clipboard.

This means that you can reinsert them in an image / text editing program.

 

Screenshots that you create using a keyboard shortcut are saved by default in your personal user directory in the Pictures subfolder.

 

You can also download many different free screenshot tools in Linux, for this you should simply find out about your current Linux version and search the Internet for a suitable tool.
